September 30, 2010 – Tony Curtis – News:Dies at 85

He first attracted critical notice as Sidney Falco, the press agent seeking favor with a sadistic columnist, played by Burt Lancaster, in the 1957 classic “Sweet Smell of Success.”

In her book “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” Pauline Kael wrote that in the film, “Curtis grew up into an actor and gave the best performance of his career.”

Other prestigious films followed: Stanley Kubrick’s “Spartacus,” “Captain Newman, M.D.,” “The Vikings,” “Kings Go Forth,” “Operation Petticoat” and “Some Like It Hot.” He also found time to do a voice acting gig as his prehistoric lookalike, Stony Curtis, in an episode of “The Flintstones.”

“The Defiant Ones” remained his only Oscar-nominated role.

‘I think it has nothing to do with good performances or bad performances,” he told The Washington Post in 2002. “After the number of movies I made where I thought there should be some acknowledgment, there was nothing from the Academy.”

“My happiness and privilege is that my audience around the world is supportive of me, so I don’t need the Academy.”

In 2000, an American Film Institute survey of the funniest films in history ranked “Some Like It Hot” at No. 1. Curtis – famously imitating Cary Grant’s accent – and Jack Lemmon play jazz musicians who dress up as women to escape retribution after witnessing a gangland massacre.

Monroe was their co-star, and he and Lemmon were repeatedly kept waiting as Monroe lingered in her dressing room out of fear and insecurity. Curtis fumed over her unprofessionalism. When someone remarked that it must be thrilling to kiss Monroe in the film’s love scenes, the actor snapped, “It’s like kissing Hitler.” In later years, his opinion of Monroe softened, and in interviews he praised her unique talent.

In 2002, Curtis toured in “Some Like It Hot” – a revised and retitled version of the 1972 Broadway musical “Sugar,” which was based on the film. In the touring show, the actor graduated to the role of Osgood Fielding III, the part played in the movie by Joe E. Brown.

After his star faded in the late 1960s, Curtis shifted to lesser roles. With jobs harder to find, he fell into drug and alcohol addiction.

“From 22 to about 37, I was lucky,” Curtis told Interview magazine in the 1980s, “but by the middle ’60s, I wasn’t getting the kind of parts I wanted, and it kind of soured me. … But I had to go through the drug inundation before I was able to come to grips with it and realize that it had nothing to do with me, that people weren’t picking on me.”

He recovered in the early ’80s after a 30-day treatment at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage.

“Mine was a textbook case,” he said in a 1985 interview. “My life had become unmanageable because of booze and dope. Work became a strain and a struggle. Because I didn’t want to face the challenge, I simply made myself unavailable.”

One role during that era of struggle did bring him an Emmy nomination: his portrayal of David O. Selznick in the TV movie “The Scarlett O’Hara War,” in 1980.

His health remained vigorous, though he did get heart bypass surgery in 1994.

Curtis took a fatherly pride in daughter Jamie’s success. They were estranged for a long period, then reconciled. “I understand him better now,” she said, “perhaps not as a father but as a man.”

He also had five other children. Daughters Kelly, also with Leigh, and Allegra, with second wife Christine Kaufmann, also became actresses. His other wives were Leslie Allen, Lisa Deutsch and Jill VandenBerg, whom he married in 1998.

He had married Janet Leigh in 1951, when they were both rising young stars; they divorced in 1963.

“Tony and I had a wonderful time together; it was an exciting, glamorous period in Hollywood,” Leigh, who died in 2004, once said. “A lot of great things happened, most of all, two beautiful children.”

Curtis was born Bernard Schwartz in the Bronx in 1925, the son of Hungarian Jews who had emigrated to the United States after World War I. His father, Manny Schwartz, had yearned to be an actor, but work was hard to find with his heavy accent. He settled for tailoring jobs, moving the family repeatedly as he sought work.

“I was always the new kid on the block, so I got beat up by the other kids,” Curtis recalled in 1959. “I had to figure a way to avoid getting my nose broken. So I became the crazy new kid on the block.”

His sidewalk histrionics helped avoid beatings and led to acting in plays at a settlement house. He also grew to love movies. “My whole culture as a boy was movies,” he said. “For 11 cents, you could sit in the front row of a theater for 10 hours, which I did constantly.”

After serving in the Pacific during World War II and being wounded at Guam, he returned to New York and studied acting under the G.I. Bill. He appeared in summer stock theater and on the Borscht Circuit in the Catskills. Then an agent lined up an audition with a Universal-International talent scout. In 1948, at 23, he signed a seven-year contract with the studio, starting at $100 a week.

Bernie Schwartz sounded too Jewish for a movie actor, so the studio gave him a new name: Anthony Curtis, taken from his favorite novel, “Anthony Adverse,” and the Anglicized name of a favorite uncle. After his eighth film, he became Tony Curtis.

The studio helped smooth the rough edges off the ambitious young actor. The last to go was his street-tinged Bronx accent, which had become a Hollywood joke.

Curtis pursued another career as an artist, creating Matisse-like still lifes with astonishing speed. “I’m a recovering alcoholic,” he said in 1990 as he concluded a painting in 40 minutes in the garden of the Bel-Air Hotel. “Painting has given me such a great pleasure in life, helped me to recover.”

He also turned to writing, producing a 1977 novel, “Kid Cody and Julie Sparrow.” In 1993, he wrote “Tony Curtis: The Autobiography.”

Jamie Lee Curtis Hates Hollywood's "Conspiracy" Against Women

In the new issue of AARP The Magazine, Jamie Lee Curtis discusses the tremendous pressure on older actresses to get plastic surgery, and she plans to quit acting rather than going under the knife.

Curtis says:

Everybody is saying that to get jobs you have to dye your hair and get injectables. It's a conspiracy, a complete catastrophe, a surgical industrial complex. Somehow we are being fed this belief that to continue on we have to do this. Yet people are being disfigured. It's shocking what people are doing to their faces… There are people who, when you see them on the screen, there's an audible gasp of, 'Oh my God. They look terrible.' Or they've done something to themselves and now look like freaks.

Curtis adds that while a few natural-looking women like Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver are still winning good roles, she can name “30 other actresses” in their age group who can't find work. As for Curtis, she refuses to submit to the “surgical industrial complex” and says, “I'm getting my ass out of this business in a few years because genetically it's not going to work for me.”

Unhinged Mel Gibson Phone Call Reveals He's Run Out of Money

“You know what mean is now, don't you?” Mel Gibson taunts ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in the latest phone recording. Then, a revelation: “I don't have any fucking money… I have to sell my box at the Lakers game.”

[Warning: The recording contains lots of profanity, so turn down your speakers or put your headphones on. Or don't listen.]

In Gibson's newest rant, he blames ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva for running out of cash: “I don't have any fucking money! I have to support you and everybody else! I have to sell paintings, I have to sell my box at the Lakers game.” She protests it's not her fault he has to “feed an army.”

They fight over who is the worse parent and Grigorieva says, “You're the meanest person I know.” Breathing raggedly, he screams his response: “Yeah, you know what mean is now, don't you? I like to show you what mean really is, bitch, cunt, whore, golddigger.”

America Stands On The Precipice Of Total Collapse

World government to be built from the ashes of the United States unless nightmarish agenda for new world order is defeated

Paul Joseph Watson & Alex JonesPrison Planet.comWednesday, July 14, 2010

There can be little doubt that America, along with the west as a whole, is being set up for a total collapse in which life as we know it will be fundamentally altered and rebuilt around a collectivist model managed and controlled by the same criminals who engineered the crisis in the first place.

America has been targeted for an economic, military, and social coup de tat by globalists who know that to get people to accept a new way of life under the heel of the new world order requires that the pillars of everything they knew before are completely pulverized. Freedom, prosperity, and community have no place in a “post-industrial revolution,” and every assault on the living standards of American citizens is designed to infect and wither these ideals.

We are looking at a road warrior style collapse of society within two years if the entities that orchestrated the crisis are allowed to pose as saviors and institute their austerity fascism, carbon taxes, “green economy,” post-industrial revolution, and the evisceration of America’s first world status that will inevitably follow if such measures are allowed to pass.

The plan for America is to sink the country into chaos so that it can be swallowed whole and consumed as part of the march towards global government. The globalists want to do to America what they have done to the third world, by creating an underclass of impoverished and deprived citizens who are dependent on government for their every need.

Millions of Americans have been dumbed-down to the point where, as major newspapers announce that the country is heading into a third great depression, as unemployment soars, as police departments announce they will no longer be responding to crimes, and as infrastructure crumbles, the top story this afternoon on Yahoo.com, the most heavily trafficked website in the country, was about how Brad Pitt had shaved off his beard.

Likewise, as society and the economy collapses around them, Americans are more concerned about protesting the decision of a basketball player to move to another team.

(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)

However, a growing number of grass-roots movements are now bringing people together under the banner of resentment against big government. This has led to political victories for anti-in***bent candidates who now seriously threaten to dilute the two-party power monopoly in Washington this November. This has led individuals close to Obama to openly invoke the need for a domestic terror attack as the only way to rescue his presidency and the wider collectivist agenda.

Globalists are in a race against time to completely destroy everything America stood for so that they can rebuild the country in their likeness. This is why central banks are now abandoning the U.S. dollar as part of the move towards a global union currency backed by a global central bank that will become the world reserve currency for the new world order.

This is why police departments are now announcing they they will no longer respond to a whole list of crimes including burglary. A certain level of lawlessness has to exist in order to justify the total police state lockdown that will inevitably ensue after widespread rioting begins to break out.

This is why crippling austerity measures are being rammed through even as income drops and jobs are lost. Basic services will skyrocket in price or be cut off completely as America is subjected to the “shock therapy” that has been inflicted on lesser nations as a way of gelding the people to accept sub-standard lives of squalor and dependence. Energy prices will soar after the disastrous “green economy” initiatives are implemented, while toll roads, Obamacare, and all manner of new consumption taxes will dry up whatever disposable income they have left.

The world government will be built from the ashes of the worldwide depression engineered by the financial terrorists who have set in motion a chain of events that only has one conclusion unless we are able to properly identify these globalists for who they are.

Anyone in a position of power who is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderberg Group or the Trilateral Commission is an enemy of America and needs to be stripped of their office, shorn of their influence and identified as a criminal working behind the scenes to bring about the end of the United States as a first world nation.

Only through exposure and a political drive to squeeze the influence and power of these individuals can we hope to lessen the impact of their nightmarish plans for America.

But You're Like Really F*cked, Mel Gibson. by ButYoureLikeReallyPretty.com

Yes, sociopathic narcissism does seem to fit Mel's behavior profile. And yes, it takes strong proof to show abuse and you must build a case. You cannot just run, scream, call police, hang up the phone, push these people over the edge etc. If you want out, and to see them legally held accountable, you must remain calm, have a game plan, and follow it thru. Only way to hope for justice to somewhat be served and to get free. These people are insane, and they can/will drive you there with them. Be informed and learn about psychopathic behavior. For information on this type of behavior refer to Dr. Robert Hare's psychopathy checklist, which is widely used by many health professionals to help diagnose sociopathic personality disorder.

  2. Yup! Says:
    July 15th, 2010 12:52 PM

Mel is responsible for his behavior, bottom line. Regardless of her behavior or motives, it does not give him free reign to behave this way. Mel has openly shown himself, on other occasions, to be out of control. He needs to be held accountable and the law needs to see that he is, regardless of his status. But, as someone else has mentioned, look at OJ.
As far as Oksana being calm during the taping, yes, I am certain taping had something to do with it, still it is common for the female to become calm during abuse, both verbal and physical. Disassociation and survival take over. Certainly Me's status, wealth and her lack thereof, make for a trapped situation. Both sides have victimized each other. Sure, it's all about $$, but isn't most everything?

  6. roz Says:
    July 14th, 2010 1:24 PM

IAGREE… I was in the same situation an know what that… Mel Gibson is a classical abuser…not matter what..
“If you have been a victim of domestic violence 9 times out of 10 you have heard almost to the exact words the threats and accusations that the “male” on this tape made. Domestic violence is no joke, whether verbal or physical. Violence is violence. Sociecty needs to stop blaming the victim for staying with an abuser, trying to protect themselves by gathering evidence, etc. An abusive person can be kissing you one second and grabbing you by the throat the next second. An abuser can be holding you hand walking down the street smiling with you one second and accusing you of flirting with some male who just past you or other such nonsense. Look up the defination for “delusional jealousy”. If you want to know the traits of an abuser surf the web for “domestic violence.” This activity affects people from every walk of life, every ethnic and relogious group and every economic level. As a domestic violence “survivor” I can say that living with an abuser is stressful every second. You are constantly walikng on eggshells because you have no idea what will set the person off. The abuser can have a triade like the “male” on this tape, then come home and trat you like none of that ever occured. It is hard to leave if you love the “good” of the person, but hate the “monster”.
Domestic violence is a silent killer of many women. Protection orders don't work. Abusers violate them every day. There are not enough police in the US to monitor these abusers. Abusers will call you from jail and come to your home when they get out. They are rarely sentenced to more than amonth or so in jail, unless they have “committed” the crimes more than three times or unless they kill their victims. Abusers do not change. They can go to anger management classes, say what they need to say to get credit for being in the class, come out and reabuse. Until people syop excusing this behavior and these abusers receive TRUE punishment, no one will care until it is thier loved one who is hospitalized, maimed or killed. ”

  7. Margaret Says:

She is not a victim here at all! This is so ridiculous, and reflects so much of the stupid American mentality. EVERYONE in this country curses, and now just because this guy is a public figure and his private business becomes public, he is not allowed to curse like EVERYONE else does in an argument, man or woman. Hypocrisy at its best. This woman had this all planned, she never cared about him, but saw this as a HUGE opportunity of making some millions. I wouldnt be surprised if someone is advising her. Mel is the victim here, it is OBVIOUS. She is a deceitful gold digger.

  8. PUT HIM IN JAIL Says:

IT'S BEEN SEEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN…MEL IS GOING TO GET OFF WITH NO JAIL TIME PERHAPS SOME THERAPY AND THATS ALL. MEL IS HUMAN LIKE EVERYONE ELSE BUT HIS PERSONAL STATUS RISES ABOVE MOST AND ALL AVERAGE PEOPLE..HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER THEN BE ACTING OUT LIKE THAT..IT REALLY IS NO NEED. HE SHOULD'VE KNOWN THAT THIS WOMAN COULD HAVE TAPED HIM IF GIVEN THE CHANCE..THE WOMAN HAS TO PROTECT HERSELF AND HER BABY.. I AM NOT TOTALLY AGAINST MEL ONLY FOR HE IS PART A VICTIM HERE BUT SO IS HIS GIRLFRIEND..NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SOMEONE LIKE MEL..HE NEEDS HELP FAST…HE HAS THE MONEY TO GET THE BEST HELP IN THE WORLD..THE WOMAN SHOULD FIND HER PLACE AND MOVE FAR AWAY AND LEAVE MEL ALONE….WHATS SO DIFFICULT ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION IS THAT NOW THERE IS A LITTLE GIRL BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM…HE WILL HAVE TO SUPPORT FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS AND ALSO SUPPORT THE MOTHER OF THAT BABY FOR THAT SAME AMOUNT OF TIME MORE OR LESS..HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETELY GET AWAY FROM THE WOMAN ALL CAUSE SHE IS THE MOTHER OF THE BABY HE IS GOING TO GO TO VISITS WITH….IS A VERY MESSY SITUATION ALL AROUND NO MATTER HOW YOU SEE IT..

  9. Rach Says:

I also wonder about her motives, and struggle to believe she didn't want them public, and the story may have another side to it. Having said that, acting the way Mel did is disgusting, and he definetely needs help.

  10. Mrs aussie flower Says:
    July 14th, 2010 1:09 AM

I'can't believe it that be twine Mel Gibson and Oksana going more worst and ugly,so who is wrong and who is right, what they need to do just looking back and grown up, like Mel Gibson he no young boy any more just because what him choose was wrong time wrong place, old men like him need for have good life and rest for him life, now him know the”THE MONEY DOESN'T MAKE HIM HAPPY REALLY”I feel sorry for him what happening right now, like Oksana need it help too that woman, she maybe no love him she just want money from him, that's why Mel Gibson must learn from what him have life already done,I'hope him be ok for later if choose woman and more be carefully “GOD BLESS FOR YOU ”

Just when you thought it couldn’t possibly get any worse. Voila.

A police investigation into domestic violence claims against Mel Gibson have revealed that the actor held his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint during an argument earlier this year.

Well-placed sources close to the Los Angeles Police Department say that Mel threatened Oksana Grigorieva with a handgun as she tried to leave the house, RadarOnline.com said Wednesday.

Mel allegedly grabbed the gun from his bedroom as the couple argued. Oksana made a break for the door, but not before he waved the weapon in her face, telling her: “I will show you how to get out of here fast.”

Police are continuing to investigate a claim that the actor punched the pianist/singer, 40, in the face while she was holding their baby, Lucia, 8 mos, in an incident Jan. 6. As investigators prepare for a possible interview with Oksana’s 13-year-old son — a potential witness to that assault — another witness has stepped forward with photographed evidence of Oksana’s injuries: her dentist, Dr. Ross Shelton.

TMZ writes: “Dr. Shelden says he has known Oksana for 12 years. According to the declaration, Oksana came in the day after the incident and told him Mel had hit her, but she was not more specific. The doctor says in his declaration he saw evidence of “blunt force trauma” as well as physical damage. Something significant — in the declaration, Dr. Shelden says Oksana’s teeth were not damaged … just her veneers. He says one veneer was knocked completely out and the other was broken in half…The doctor wanted to take pictures of Oksana’s mouth, but not to create a record for authorities — he wanted them for his lab for the purpose of repairing the damage. The doctor says Oksana did not want the pictures taken, and had expressly said she wanted to protect Mel. But Dr. Shelden persisted and got the photos, although he says Oksana was so reluctant she would not look into the camera.”

Dr. Shelton was reportedly so concerned about Oksana’s well-being that he offered to allow her and her children to stay in his home.

Doesn’t sound like the Mel Gibson you know and love? Well, neither does this…

FIFA World Cup 2010

Guys, I think the performance was terrible. Stats do not matter- we’ve seen teams with 70-75% of possession time lose matches, and Ghana by nature in Rajevic’s system concedes possession and tends to drop off. For me in this game their was always only going to be one winner. The lack of a clinical finisher in addition to (for the most part) bad movement off the ball meant the US had to resort to route one longball. Ultimately, as we evolve as a footballing nation we must move beyond this approach. Bradley wanted us to do so, preaching one touch, pass and go football, but our players have been saddled with bad habits since the youth level.

Bob Bradley has emerged as one of the elite international football managers, at least when you consider the talent level he has versus the results we’ve achieved. The US has consistently overachieved in his tenure. Winning Gold Cup 2007, Getting out of a very tough Confederations Cup group in 2009, winning the Hex over a Mexico team with far more technically gifted players, and winning a World Cup Group in 2010. For much of his tenure he has pressed the right buttons at the right time. We’ve read about how the team does not look right and how it concedes early goals. But the fighting spirit and in-game tactical changes reflect a smart and savvy manager who has grown on the job. The US is not going to do better than Bob Bradley. Now what we need to do is look back at the Q-Report, Project 2010 and determine why we are not where we should be (or sought to be in that report) in terms of player development, professionalism of our players, and overall structure of football. We need to evaluate what South Korea and Japan have done with similar resources to emerge quickly. We need to look at Holland, France and Brazil as our player development models and cast aside the continued anglophilia that afflicts many in and around the game in this country. Whatever we can take from England in terms of development and structure has already been taken. Now we need to find inspiration elsewhere and grow the program from a systematic level.

Firing Bob Bradley in my opinion would be a colossal mistake that would take us backwards. Bradley wants to play a certain way, the way we should be playing. But our players do not have the technical skill, positioning sense or tactical awareness yet to play that way. Essentially we are a high energy team without a creative presence like Tab Ramos or Claudio Reyna. With the exception of Michael Bradley, our players do not consistently position themselves correctly or make the right runs going forward off the ball. A national team coach has very little time with the players to teach these things. The fact that his own son is by far our most savvy footballer speaks volumes to me about both BB and the system, and furthers my notion that our development system and youth structure needs a major overhaul.

Bradley does get team selection wrong as he did with Rico Clark yesterday. But does he typically get things right? Yes. Benny Feilhaber wasn’t even in the player pool when he became coach. He integrated him into the team in his third friendly as manager. He choose Mo Edu for the Switzerland friendly even though he had never been capped at the youth level. He selected Charlie Davies for a friendly against China in 2007 even though he wasn’t on the radar of our youth national team coaches at the time. I could go on and on with similar stories, but for the first time EVER, the US selection process was based on merit under Bradley and not based on how many youth caps a player had or what club or league they played for/in.

Again, he’s brought our program a long way in a short time. But a coach can only do so much when we have real problems elsewhere in our system.

Two of soccer's most bitter rivals hit the field today, with Germany taking home a decisive 4-1 win. England is now eliminated from the World Cup; Germany will move to the quarter-finals and play the winner of this afternoon's Argentina-Mexico game.

In the battle of old rivals, Germany played a masterful second half to dismantle England’s shoddy defense. England, outclassed and outplayed, will now go home, while the Germans now await the winner of this afternoon’s Argentina-Mexico game in the quarterfinal. After Germany jumped out to a 2-0 lead, England showed some signs of life by pulling one back. Frank Lampard should have had a second for the Three Lions, but it was wrongfully disallowed by the linesman. It was as close as England would come. Two sensational counterattacking moves were finished by World Cup rookie Thomas Muller before the 70th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Watch England's Discounted Goal

• Full coverage of the World Cup Few teams hate each other quite as much as the English and German national sides, and not just because they have played some classic games over the years, including the 1966 World Cup final and the 1990 semifinal. Then again, few teams have two world wars to bring up every time they meet. For the past several days, ever since the pair realized they were going to play each other in the second round of the World Cup, the countries’ respective tabloids have taken shots across the North Sea, bringing up everything from previous meetings to the outcome of World War II—always with a wry sense of humor. While the Germans often chant about the “Three World Cups!” they hold over England’s lone title, English fans retort with “Two World Wars!” But the most famous bit of ribbing may have come in 1996 when the British Mirror newspaper printed the headline “Achtung! Surrender” ahead of an England match with Germany.

FIFA World Cup 2006, Germany by Josh Dhaliwal

World Cup Live Stream: Argentina takes on Mexico tonight at Soccer City in Johannesburg in a rematch of a hard-fought Round of 16 encounter from the 2006 World Cup in Germany. La Albiceleste won that game on a jaw-dropping volley from Maxi Rodriguez in extra time, and now Mexico will avenge its loss to the South Americans. Argentina was one of only two teams to advance from the group stages with a perfect record, and coach Diego Maradona said he would field his “best team,” featuring FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi along with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez up-front when they meet Javier Aguirre’s side. Stopping Messi, the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year, has to be the number one priority of any opponents of La Albiceleste and Mexico could have no better man to organize the shackling. The Mexicans have never made it past the last 8 — and they haven’t even made it that far in 24 years. In previous encounters, the Argentines have 11 wins compared to El Tri’s four with ten games drawn. Meanwhile, the two-time champions are likely to be without Inter Milan defender Walter Samuel, who was injured against South Korea in their previous match. Nicolas Burdisso is expected to continue in his place against the Mexicans. The match kicks-off at 20:30 CET (2:30 p.m. ET). US Open Golf Odds 2010: Phil Mickelson’s Turn

US Open Golf Odds 2010: Phil Mickelson’s Turn

One more ride on the golf course is about to come and go. The US Open Golf 2010 will be here before you know it. The big story is Phil Mickelson who turned forty yesterday but seems to be playing some of the best golf of his career. Mickelson has managed to win three times in Augusta, taken home a PGA Championship to make a total of four major championships.

But, the US Open owns Mickelson.  Finishing second in anything is rarely an admirable goal. For Michelson, being sent home in second place on five different occasions is just pure insulting. But, he has another chance this year in the US Open Golf Odds 2010. He says he doesn’t mind that he hasn’t played well in the US Open, but be real, real competitors like Mickelson are chomping at the bit to regain control.

Mickelson managed to take home a win in the Masters a few months ago and hopefully he can recall that feeling as he heads into the US Open Golf Odds 2010.  Without a doubt, all golfers feel that the course for the US Open is the toughest in the world. And, knowing that, surely finishing second could be admirable. Mickelson is ready to make his move at the US Open so sit back and relax and let the play get started.

San Bernardino County Corrupt Incumbent, Larry Walker – Throw The Bum Out On June 8th 2010!

Reason Number Six Why Larry Walker Must Go deals with the fact that he's the Incumbent! Currently as historical data goes, being the incumbent is generally a smart factor — UNLESS YOU'RE A CORRUPT POLITICIAN FOR SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY!

We have a tendency to have to remind citizens constantly that Larry Walker is not only the Incumbent for the Auditor, Controller, County Recorder, County Clerk, but we also have to remind them that he was on the Board of Supervisors for twelve years too! Which means that Larry Walker was on the board with the likes of Bill Postmus and others in the Nineteen Nineties who were accused of widespread corruption and cronyism. (See Daily Bulletin Article here: <http://www.dailybulletin.com/sbcountywatch/ci_12916474>).

However slick Larry Walker, the Teflon-Don of the Board of Supervisors, stepped down from the Board of Supervisors and ran for, the Auditor, Controller, County Recorder, County Clerk position that he has mismanaged for the past twelve years. And guess what. . . the culture of corruption and cronyism didn't change one bit!

Of course, now Walker manages to lose scores of County greenbacks, our arduously-earned tax greenbacks, on his own. His cronyism is true to form as he promoted former J.C. Penny Clerk and county office assistant to Chief Deputy!  Walker even went thus far as to remove the higher education degree demand from this position as a result of he KNEW that his girlfriend was NOT QUALIFIED, simply as Bill Postmus did with his crony, Adam Aleman. ( see the aspect-by-side comparison of Larry Walker vs. Bill Postmus here:Larry Walker just as corrupt as Bill Postmus:  Larry Walker as corrupt as Bill Postmus)

This is the year when it's time for the recent addage:  “out with the old, in with the new”.  It is time, after thirty+ years, get rid of corrupt, inept politicians like Larry Walker.  Let's send this political hack walking and Vote on June 8th to Get Rid of Larry Walker!

San Bernardino County Needs Your Help – Send Packing Corrupt Incumbent Larry Walker On June 8th 2010

It's time for the citizens of the County of San Bernardino to get rid of some trash by voting out more corrupt politicians on June 8th, 2010.

Larry Walker, Incumbent Auditor, Controller, Recorder, Clerk, is one of those corrupt Board of Supervisors who gave up his seat on the board to take the lower position at ACR.  However, he was right in the thick of all the corruption with Bill Postmus and company.

In fact, Larry Walker is just as corrupt as Bill Postmus (for the full details, you must read a blog put together by current and former staff members at: http://LarryWalkerMustGo.blogspot.com)

As San Bernardino County's Auditor, Controller and Recorder, Larry Walker has lost millions of our hard-earned tax dollars, and we have even fewer services available now than prior to Walker's reign of the last 12 years.  Those 12 years included the largest revenues generated by the Recorder's Office in the history of the county.  Yet, Walker coulnd not even open a single branch location while our sister county, Riverside, has six (6) different locations for recorder services!

There's more scandal to this life-long political trash heap, who has been sucking down a public salary for over 30 years!  He cost the City of Fontana hundreds of thousands of dollars by failing to put his branch in the new Library, which he also already paid in advance for space and employee staffing!  Walker's last federal audit had so many findings, the County is now considered “high risk”, which will immediately cost the County more in increased audits, and the County is at risk of losing $1 billion in federal grants.

It's time to take out the trash and put incumbent, Larry Walker, a 30+ year political hack out to pasture.

Let's save ourselves another investigation: just vote on June 8, 2010, and Get Rid of Larry Walker!

'Dancing with the Stars' season 10 premieres tonight on ABC

By Melanie Henry

March 22, 2010, 12:00PM

Jake Pavelka, “The Bachelor” star, joins Chelsie Hightower, who returns for her third season of “Dancing With the Stars” tonight for the season 10 premiere.I am a big dancing fan.

I may not be the best dancer myself, but I love watching people dance. The only training I have ever had was ballet classes when I was 5 — I was terrible, by the way — and that is really the extent of my technical knowledge.

When “Dancing With the Stars” first began in 2005 I was really skeptical and turned the premiere episode off after 5 minutes because I found show host Tom Bergeron extremely annoying.

Although I wasn't watching the show I was still interested in how the dancers where doing and what stars were emerging as favorites. Lucky for me, my co-worker and former Express-Times Arts and Entertainment editor Sue Kalan watched the show religiously and filled me in each week.

Since then, I have watched my share of dancing shows including “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” I've seen a lot of crossover between these two shows — mainly dancers and choreographers going from one show to the other.

This leads me to explain four reasons why I will be tuning in for my first season ever of “DWTS.”

Reason 1: I enjoy dancing.

Reason 2: These dancing shows give dancers every possible opportunity to get their talent seen, and if things don’t necessarily work out for them on one show, they can try again on another. Perfect example: Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval and Hokuto “Hok” Konishi were contestants on season three of “So You Think You Can Dance” and later appeared as members of Quest Crew on the third season of MTV’s “America‘s Best Dance Crew,” emerging as the winners.

Reason 3: Bergeron is finally getting some competent hosting help with the addition of Brooke Burke as the new co-host this season. Burke has plenty of experience and was “DWTS” season 7 champ.

Reason 4: I want to see how badly recent “Bachelor” Jake Pavelka dances.

Nicole Scherzinger, right, practices with her partner Derek Hough for her ballrooom dancing debut on “Dancing With the Stars.”With my reasons clearly stated, I am ready for “DWTS” to begin. Tune in at 8 tonight on ABC for the two-hour season premiere. Dancers will be dancing the cha cha or Viennese waltz in their first night of competition, with no eliminations happening this week. According to a press release from ABC, all of the couples will return at 8 p.m. March 29 for another two-hour show. The couple with the lowest combined judges' scores and public votes for both performances will be sent home the following night.

The 11 star contestants and their partners:

  • BUZZ ALDRIN, legendary astronaut, partners up with ASHLY COSTA (formerly DelGrosso), who returns for her fourth season.
  • PAMELA ANDERSON, actress and model, joins professional dancer DAMIAN WHITEWOOD, who makes his “DWTS” debut this season.
  • ERIN ANDREWS, ESPN host, teams with MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY, who returns for his eighth season.
  • SHANNEN DOHERTY, actress, teams up with two-time “DWTS” champ MARK BALLAS, who returns for his sixth season.
  • KATE GOSSELIN, TLC star, teams with TONY DOVOLANI, who returns for his ninth season.
  • EVAN LYSACEK, Olympic figure skating champion, teams with ANNA TREBUNSKAYA, who returns for her fifth season.
  • NIECY NASH, comedienne and host, teams up with LOUIS VAN AMSTEL, who returns for his sixth season.
  • CHAD OCHOCINCO, NFL Star, teams up with two-time champion CHERYL BURKE, who returns for her ninth season.
  • JAKE PAVELKA, “The Bachelor” star, joins CHELSIE HIGHTOWER, who returns for her third season.
  • NICOLE SCHERZINGER, pop star, teams with Season 7 champ DEREK HOUGH, who returns for his sixth season.
  • AIDEN TURNER, soap star, teams with EDYTA SLIWINSKA, who is the only pro to compete in all 10 seasons of “DWTS.”

Do you have any early favorites? Let us know in the comments box below.

Astronauts, athletes, actresses and more — if nothing else, the cast for the 10th season of "Dancing With the Stars" is diverse, and thankfully, they're also filled with plenty of promise, judging by their first performances in a season premiere filled with laughs, tears and dropped jaws.

Kicking the season off was NFL star Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke with the cha-cha-cha, a dance Burke described as "fun and flirty, just like ." Returning judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Anne Inaba all agreed Ochocinco has great potential, with Goodman describing him as "a rough diamond" waiting to be sharpened. With a score of 18 out of 30, Ochocinco told new co-host and former "Dancing With the Stars" champion Brooke Burke that he felt good on the dance floor but still has "a long way to go."

Following Ochocinco was "Beverly Hills, 90210" veteran Shannen Doherty and partner Mark Ballas. Doherty revealed that she joined the show in support of her father, who is currently recovering from a stroke. Despite her best intentions, the actress was a self-described nervous wreck, but Ballas jokingly promised that he'd keep her nerves down and have antihistamine on hand. The pair, like Ochocinco and Burke, earned an 18 out of 30 but received compliments from the judges for showing "ease and elegance" in their performance of the Viennese Waltz. After the dance, Doherty tearfully said the proud expression on her father's face was all she needed to feel accomplished.

ESPN host Erin Andrews took the stage next alongside the outspoken Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who chastised Andrews during rehearsal: "My only pleasure in life is to bitch at people, and you're taking it away!" Performing the cha-cha-cha, Andrews received a strong 21 out of 30, despite some criticism for lack of control over her arm and leg movements.

Fresh off the heels of his stint on "The Bachelor," Jake Pavelka traded in his rose for a pair of dance shoes alongside partner Chelsie Hightower, who said Jake would get a lot of votes from the female audience because "he's hot." The judges were torn on Jake's performance, with Inaba saying he worked romance into his dance, while Bruno argued he was too rough. Despite the disagreement, Jake waltzed away with an admirable 20 out of 30.

"Reno 911" star Niecy Nash, the next competitor, made it a point to flaunt her "jiggly parts" with the following mission statement: "I want to be the nice, thick, grown woman that stands in the front, not the chubby girl that sits in the back." Alongside partner Louis Van Amstel, Nash impressed Inaba with a lot of sass and personality, but Goodman wasn't as kind, going so far as to call the dance an uneventful and "flat" cha-cha-cha. Nash walked away with 18 out of 30, dedicating her performance to "thick girls everywhere."

Without the aid of his trademark ice skates, Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek braved the dance floor with his partner Anna Trebunskaya. Lysacek acknowledged that his experience as a skater could prove beneficial, but he had trouble acclimating to certain spin styles during rehearsal. Even with these difficulties acknowledged, Lysacek scored the second-best result of the evening with 23 out of 30. Goodman praised the skater for his musicality and elegance but agreed with the other judges that he needed to work on his "clumsy feet."

Lysacek's clumsy feet were hardly problematic compared to world-renowned astronaut Buzz Aldrin's own difficulties. Although Aldrin received loving tributes from colleagues in space, all three judges agreed that the spacewalker's moves needed some work. "How can I possibly criticize a hero and a legend, but I have to do my job," Tonioli offered before he and the judges bestowed Aldrin with a 14 out of 30, the lowest score of the evening. Aldrin accepted the result gracefully, declaring: "I'm looking forward to the future."

The lowest-ranked performance of the evening was swiftly followed by the highest, as Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough blew the judges away with their Viennese Waltz. Tonioli described the performance as having "startling finesse," while Inaba said Scherzinger and Hough set the bar for the rest of season 10. Goodman was much less impressed, telling Scherzinger she needed to work on her finesse. Despite the criticism, the pair managed an impressive 25 out of 30, the best score of the night.

If Scherzinger set the bar for the competition, "All My Children" actor Aiden Turner completely missed it. Along with partner Edyta Sliwinska, who finished in last place during last season's competition, Turner failed to impress the judges with his cha-cha-cha set to the tune of "Hungry Like the Wolf." Inaba enjoyed Turner's approach and bravado but felt he and his partner didn't hit the mark. "I gave it my all," he sighed after receiving a score of 15 out of 30. "The crowd had my back, but it's nerve-racking out there."

Kate Gosselin, tabloid target and mother of eight, was the next star to grace the dance floor with longtime "Dancing With the Stars" competitor Tony Dovolani. Performing the Viennese Waltz, Gosselin revealed that her eight children laughed at her when they found out she'd be performing in the dancing competition. The judges didn't join Gosselin's eight in mocking the reality star, but they did acknowledge that she would have her work cut out for her in order to go deep into the contest. Gosselin left the stage with 16 out of 30, declaring that while she feels honored to be part of the series, she's equally "glad that it's over and glad that my kids can rest easy tonight."

Finishing the first night of competition was "Baywatch" actress Pamela Anderson and partner Damian Whitewood with the cha-cha-cha. True to her reputation, Anderson performed aggressively and sexually with Whitewood, tearing his shirt open midway into the dance and chewing on his hand afterward. "I can only think of sex, sex, sex, the dirtier the better," assessed Tonioli before he and the judges gifted Anderson with a final score of 21 out of 30.

Because the votes and scores will be combined with next week's results, none of the 11 dancers are in imminent danger of expulsion from the dance competition. While there were certainly some fits and starts, nearly every competitor exhibited an enviable amount of enthusiasm, personality and, in many cases, skill. Without a doubt, this season of "Dancing With the Stars" will be one to watch.

Who was your favorite dancer? Are you excited for this season of "Dancing With the Stars"? Sound off in the comments!

THE COSMIC WEATHER REPORT
JANUARY, 2010

As 2009 begins, the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto are in Capricorn. Capricorn is an earth sign, practical and down to earth, pragmatic, organized, a sign of discipline, seriousness and commitment. The holidays are over. It’s time to take hold and reestablish discipline, restraint and practicality needed to take a grounded approach to the New Year.
Mars turned retrograde* on December 20. The time around Mars’s “station” is often a time of high activity, and people may be impulsive, hot tempered, moving fast and generally revved up. This includes being accident-prone. The interval after the station while Mars is retrograde is often a time of diminished physical energy and initiative. Every astrological circumstance presents an opportunity. Mars retrograde presents an opportunity to turn down one’s impulsiveness and bumptiousness and be more conscious of how we go about our lives, how we go after what we want. It’s a chance to set aside self-centeredness and be more collaborative and cooperative, going for win-win outcomes.
I am thinking that Mars retrograde is also a time to be conscious of one’s physical energy. It’s not automatically just there, so this is a time to do things that support that physical energy, such as rest, exercise, and attention to the fuel we give our bodies, as well as the things that we do that diminish our energy. Mars will turn direct on March 10.
Mercury turned retrograde* on December 26 and will be retrograde until January 15. Regular readers of this blog and others familiar with astrology know that Mercury retrograde cycles are times of slowdowns, miscommunications, disruptions of plans and other glitches. (See the Mercury retrograde discussion in the footnotes of this column.) Take your time getting the New Year off to its start.
Saturn turns retrograde on January 13, bringing some current challenges and issues to culmination and focus. Saturn has recently entered Libra. The sign Saturn is transiting is an indicator of areas needing attention and healthy deveolpment . I believe we will all be taking relationships more seriously, attending more closely to relationship agreements and responsibilities. I think there may be a resurgence and strengthening of marriage. Since Saturn is a key to areas where latent problems are coming to light and ongoing problems are reaching the point where they must be dealt with, we can also expect relationships that are not in good shape to either get the attention and work that is needed to regain solid, productive footing, or to come to an end. This Saturn station in mid-January may bring some of those relationship issues to clearer focus, with some relationships hitting rocky ground and others reaching a new level of strength and solidity.
Libra is concerned with balance and fairness, and these couple of years while Saturn is in Libra are a good time to work for more balance in our lives Are there situations that are unfair or out of balance that need attention?
Depending on how Saturn is aligning with your chart, this Saturn station may have more or less significance and be relatively easy and satisfying or challenging (and satisfying or frustrating). What do you need to deal with, to clean up? This is a good time to take action. The Solar Eclipse on January 14 supports transitions and changes.
Jupiter will enter Pisces on January 17. The sign Jupiter is in is an area where we are expanding our awareness and potential. Jupiter in Pisces may support our developing our spirituality, intuition and compassion. Jupiter’s entry into Pisces may not be particularly notable, though such an ingress will often coincide with something symbolic in the news. Over the coming months, though, the change may be noticeable, in terms of more discussion of spirituality, of compassion, and/or of psychic insights or intuition. Eastern religion and philosophy may grow in prominence. As Pisces relates to our oceans, the oceans and water in general will continue to be discussed more and more. This is a fairly short influence, lasting only a year or so, until next January, but it will support our growth in these areas. (Jupiter will venture into Aries from June until September this year before reentering Pisces until January 2011.)
With the most significant astrological events of the month occurring on January 13th (Saturn station), 14th (Solar Eclipse), 15th (Mercury direct) and 17th (Jupiter’s entry into Pisces), it appears that mid-month could be a time of turning points for many of us, depending on contacts with our individual birth charts. In general, the second half of the month may be more easily progressive, what with Mercury now direct, and the New Moon/Eclipse beginning a new lunar cycle. We’re also moving from serious Capricorn into innovative, humanitarian Aquarius on January 19.
An interesting potential blessing is that the Sun and Venus appear close together in the sky most of the month. They will remain within 2 ½ degrees of one another, and much closer than that much of the time, through January 23 or so, after which Venus will gradually pull ahead of the Sun. The Sun and Venus will be exactly conjunct on January 11, kicking off the series of notable events coming at mid-month. As Venus is renowned as the planet of love, peace, harmony and beauty, this may be a time of peace and gentleness and appreciation in our personal lives. With Mars retrograde, this influence may be further supported.
In late January first Venus and then the Sun will come opposite Mars, sparking some contrasts and readjustments. Saturn will again square Pluto on January 31. This is the second of three squares between Saturn and Pluto, the previous being last November 13 and the next on August 21, 2010, an alignment indicating a time of testing and clearing of old structures and situations, This puts us on more solid footing in the long run, but is a time of testing in the short run.
WEEK BY WEEK
December 27-January 2: We need to keep the weekend and the beginning of the week simple. Venus squares Saturn Sunday evening and conjoins Pluto Monday evening, reactivating the Saturn-Pluto square with its necessity to pare down, simplify, release what is outmoded and prepare for new beginnings. Since Venus is involved, this may be a taxing time for all sorts of relationships. The holidays are stressful and we can’t be cheerful and “up” all the time. These evenings could be well spent quietly and possibly in solitude. The Moon is void of course on Monday from 10:54 a.m. until 6:13 p.m. MST. Get important things done in the morning, then be prepared to take it slow.
Tuesday and Wednesday may be more typically high energy as we run up to Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse on Thursday. This is a noontime Eclipse, 12:13 p.m. MST, when the Sun will be high in the sky and the Moon will be on the far side of the earth, so there will be nothing to see for us in North America. The chart for this Full Moon is rather positive. The Sun is conjunct Venus, in Capricorn, with the Moon opposite in Cancer. Cancer and Capricorn are both concerned with security, tradition, family. This could make for a poignant New Years Eve. This Full Moon/Eclipse is also a “Blue Moon.” That is, this is a month with two Full Moons, on December 1 and December 31. You may see mention of the Blue Moon, as the media like to take note of it, but there is really nothing astrologically remarkable about it; it’s simply a calendar thing. The fact that it is an Eclipse gives it extra punch, bringing matters into sharper focus, with the potential for realizations and turning points. As always, the degree to which this is so varies with the alignments the Moon might be making in your own birth chart.
On Friday, New Years Day, the Moon is void of course just about all day, from 8:43 a.m. until 7:41 p.m. MST. New Year’s Day is usually pretty quiet, and this one should be as well. Take time for reflection. Saturday is without remarkable planetary influences. Make your own influence the predominant determiner!
January 3-9: As the week begins we are at the midpoint of Mercury’s retrograde* cycle. Mercury aligns with the Sun, marking the midpoint, around noon on Monday. It’s often possible to get some breakthroughs and clarifications and straighten out things that have become muddled, around this point in the cycle.
Mercury is conjunct Venus on Monday-Tuesday, supporting affirmative and collaborative communication, diplomacy, sweetness and harmony. The Moon is void of course** on Tuesday from 10:24 a.m. until 9:58 p.m. MST. Have your projects begun before the v.o.c. begins and then carry forward as smoothly as possible. Moon v.o.c. occurring along with Mercury retrograde can slow down or waylay the day’s progress.
The rest of this week is unremarkable. We’re building toward the Saturn station, the first one since Saturn entered Libra. Pay attention to relationships, and to creating peace, harmony and fairness in your self and your surroundings. Be ready to deal with any issues in a patient and honest way.
January 10-16: This is an eventful week, as noted in the overview for the month. The first item of note is the Sun-Venus conjunction on Monday. That should make for a pleasant and harmonious day, though serious matters may be coming up all week. The Sun and Venus are in positive alignment with Uranus on Tuesday-Wednesday, supporting progress, freedom, excitement and new possibilities in relationships and life in general. This minor beneficial influence may help the Saturn station with its attendant gravity eventuate in positive and pleasing outcomes. Be prepared to deal with whatever is coming up. Saturn is “exalted” in Libra, meaning that it works well in this sign, so the station may be more immediately workable and beneficial than one can usually expect.
This is the very end of the current lunar cycle, and New Moon comes ‘round midnight on Thursday. Of course it’s not just a New Moon, it’s also a Solar Eclipse, though the eclipse can’t be seen in the United States because it comes at midnight, when the Sun is on the opposite side of the earth. Eclipses are thought to be catalysts for realization and change. It’s possible this might be an unusually beneficial eclipse, as the Sun and Moon will be closely conjunct Venus, which is in “mutual reception” with Saturn. That is to say, Venus is in Saturn’s sign, Capricorn, while Saturn is in Libra, which is “ruled” by Venus. Bottom line, there is some fair amount of synergy at work here, helping us in our process. By the way, the Moon, Sun and Venus are all in the same degree, 25 Capricorn. The “Sabian Symbol” for that degree is “a nature spirit dancing in the mist of a waterfall.” That can indicate lightness, perhaps a break or respite from the pressures and seriousness of life.
Mercury turns direct Friday morning, 9:52 a.m. MST. The various miscommunications, delays, red tape and computer/communications issues that may have slowed things down the last two or three weeks are beginning to clear, though it may take until around February 4, when Mercury will have regained lost ground and returned to the point at which it turned retrograde, before everything is cleared up and order is restored.
January 17-23: On Sunday the Moon goes void of course** in early afternoon, 1:23 p.m. MST, remaining so until 11:17 p.m. By now you know to get significant tasks and projects moving before the v.o.c.
Sunday is the day of Jupiter’s ingress into Pisces, at 7:11 p.m. MST. Jupiter’s transit of Pisces over the next few months will support the flowering of intuition, empathy, spirituality and the ability to “go with the flow,” intuitively navigating the currents of life.
There is also some seriousness and focus on responsibility and goals, as the Sun and Venus are at the end of Capricorn. Venus enters Aquarius early Monday morning, supporting a trend toward more lightness and freedom in relating. The Sun enters Aquarius Tuesday evening. We’ve worked hard on practical matters; it’s now time to reconnect with people and groups. Relationship, social and group connections go particularly well on Thursday, when Venus makes an easy trine alignment with Saturn, and the beneficial influence continues through the weekend, as the Sun trines Saturn on Sunday.
January 24-30: The week starts with the Sun-Saturn trine Sunday morning, an alignment that supports steadiness and productivity, including in group and interpersonal matters.
Venus comes opposite Mars on Tuesday. Venus is in l Aquarius, which is oriented toward the good of the group. Mars is in self-expressive, even arrogant, Leo, but Mars is retrograde and somewhat subdued or suppressed. It is easy to imagine some balancing between one’s personal desires and self-expression and the needs of the group. It’s even easy to imagine some dialogues today where one person is all about his/her personal desires and wanting it their way; while the other is much more detached and rising above personal whims.
The Sun will come opposite Mars ‘round noon on Friday, bringing forth more Mars in Leo fire and desire, in counterpoint to Aquarius detachment and focus on the collective. There may be a bit of contention this week.
Full Moon comes late Friday night, 11:18 p.m. MST, and it emphasizes the Mars alignments. Venus is conjunct Sun, opposite the Moon and Mars in close conjunction, only a degree apart. Sun-Venus is conciliatory and harmonizing; Moon Mars is volatile and fiery. Expect crazy stories on the nightly news. Seek to balance this polarity in yourself – be both harmonious, diplomatic and considerate and also with a strong sense of your own desires and direction. Balance your needs with those of others, affirming fair play. This reflects back to the lessons of Saturn in Libra.
January 31-February 6: Last week ends, and this week begins, with the square of Saturn and Pluto, exact on Sunday. Saturn represents structure and order, while Pluto represents processes of testing, breakdown and renewal. It’s to be expected that this is a period of testing, breakdowns and endings, followed by renewal and rebirth. This is the second in a series of three alignments, the first on November 15, 2009, and the third coming up on August 21, 2010. This is a good time to clean house, organize, budget and streamline to best manage your way through current conditions in society and the world.
This is an interesting week because it begins with this aspect of great seriousness and sobriety, having to do with getting our lives in order and being fit to endure in challenging times, and it ends with a sextile of Jupiter and Pluto. Many people who know me are aware that my phrase for positive alignments of Jupiter and Pluto is “leaping tall buildings with a single bound.” Where Saturn-Pluto alignments signify living with limitations, Jupiter-Pluto alignments typify abundance, luck and opportunity. Bits of grace and good fortune may come along from unexpected quarters.
February Preview: In contrast to January, with its several significant astrological developments, such as the Saturn-Pluto square, Solar Eclipse, Saturn turning retrograde, Mercury turning direct, etc., February is comparatively free of such influences, except for the positive sextile of Jupiter and Pluto described above and exact on February 6. The astrological weather seems mildly beneficial and not demanding a great deal of adaptation or compensation on our parts. Mars continues in retrograde until March 10. Other than that, there are a few minor alignments of Sun, Mercury, Venus or Mars to one or another planet, and most of those are beneficial. Perhaps we can just live and work and get direct results of our actions without extra consideration of the astrological weather.

*Regular readers of this column and others familiar with astrology know that all the planets occasionally appear to backtrack or “retrograde” in their orbits. A planet will slow down, appear stationary, and then appear to slip backward for a period of a few weeks or months before again appearing to slow down and be stationary before resuming apparent forward motion. Of course the planet is not actually reversing direction but only appears to do so due to its motion relative to Earth’s. Nonetheless, we do feel the effects of these shifts. When a planet is at its “station” or stationary point, the planet’s energies are emphasized; when retrograde, its energies are more internalized. The cycle looks like this. The planet is going forward, and affairs of the planet are moving forward normally. As the planet slows and turns stationary, those matters related to the planet become emphasized in our lives, and significant developments may take place. Then those matters ebb in our outer lives for a while, as we internally digest those developments and realizations and integrate them into our lives during the retrograde. Later, the planet again goes stationary, coming back to the forefront of our awareness, and then “turns direct,” resuming apparent forward motion as we again move forward with those matters related to the planet.
Mercury takes a little three-week retrograde cycle approximately every four months. Our daily affairs slow down and get complicated. Communications get tangled, computers flake out, automobiles break down and travel arrangements fall into disarray, a comedy of scheduling mishaps occurs, and things pretty much slow to a crawl. It’s really a great time to slow down and regroup, to finish projects and catch up on unfinished business. Just try not to launch your big project, or sign on the dotted line for a new contract, job, car, or whatever unless you really need to. Try to get those things moving before the retrograde, and shepherd things patiently along during the retro cycle, knowing that some things may not completely come together until Mercury turns direct. If you are making significant moves during the Mercury retrograde period, just know that some things will have to be straightened out after the direct.

**Moon void of course occurs when the Moon has made all the alignments it will make while in the sign it’s in, and is just “marking time” without real momentum. The Moon goes through a sign in 2 to 2 ½ days, so consequently it also goes v.o.c. every couple of days as well, sometimes for only a few minutes or more likely hours, but sometimes for more than a day. Things initiated during a Moon void of course period tend to meander off and arrive at a destination other than what was planned. Void of course periods are well used in completing tasks or doing routine chores, or in resting, meditating, and planning for future activities. The v.o.c. period ends when the Moon enters the next sign.

Sandra Bullock by zonazorra

I haven't seen All About Steve, because unlike me, my DVD player is not a filthy nasty whore who sucks on absolutely anything you put in its mouth. If I shove All About Steve in its mouth, it will spit that shit out as if it was a smoker's jizz load. So because of that I'm not sure if Sandra Bullock really gave Milk of Magnesia's shittiest performance by an actress in a movie, but the Razzie voters thinks so and named her THE WORST for her awful work in All About Steve. And Sandra kept her promise by showing up in person to accept her award last night.

Sandra also brought along a wagon full of All About Steve DVDs for everyone to watch and rethink their decision. Sandra said, “I brought the shooting script. I'm willing to go through page by page, read the line the way I did it in the film and, if anyone wants to give me a line read of how I could've done it better…. We can do this till about 4 o'clock in the morning. Or you guys can just watch the movie and rethink your decision, and I'll show up next year and we can go out for a drink afterward.

Okay, Sandy, you win this time. I'll go ahead and give you an awkward half-hug (our boobs won't touch) for this. However, when your ass wins an Oscar tonight (UGH. AND UGH) for that after-school special, I will go back to throwing you shade. But let's cherish this moment in the meantime.

And here's the rest of the Razzie losers:

Following her emotional win for Best Actress, Sandra Bullock joined “The Insider” correspondent Chris Jacobs and a slew of celebrities at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party to celebrate her victory.

In her speech, 'The Blind Side' actress thanked her late mother and “the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from.” Bullock reflected on her time on the Oscar stage, telling Chris, “The moms don't ever get the thank yous until it's almost too late or too late, and they don't do it for the thank yous either.”

Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal was excited to see her 'Crazy Heart' co-star Jeff Bridges take home an Oscar for Best Actor. “I'm really proud of him, but I knew he was going to win,” she said before joining her celebrity friends at the bash.

Other guests at the Vanity Fair Party included President and CEO of CBS Les Moonves and his wife Julie Chen, Oscar host Alec Baldwin, Olivia Wilde and Robert Downey Jr.

(AP) An estimated 41.3 million people saw “The Hurt Locker” top the popular “Avatar” for best picture in the most-watched Academy Awards telecast since 2005. Oscar viewership was up 14 percent over last year, the Nielsen Co. said Monday, keeping with a trend of bigger audiences for major events on broadcast television a month after the Super Bowl set the mark for most-watched telecast ever. In true film fashion, the Oscars built to a big climax when the Iraqi war thriller “The Hurt Locker” and its director, Kathryn Bigelow, topped “Avatar,” directed by James Cameron. Bigelow was the first woman to win the Oscar for best director.
